Going to purchase spreader soon for fertilzer and seed. Although I have learned to wash and rinse and rinse and rinse fertilizer equipment and will continue to do so, should I opt for a plastic hopper or painted steel? what are your experiences with either? Get the optional (longer) agitator? and when I am out in the field using it, are there any tricks in not overlapping spread other than practice?

I brought a $300 3 pt. spreader, made in Italy, from Fleet Farm. Do NOT run the PTO/spreader/agitator unless the fertilizer is flowing. Otherwise, the fertiziler can heat up and fuse into rock-like hardness, tearing up the lower most agitator necessitating emptying the spreader by hand etc. Parts were not available leading to an expensive repair. ....
